Standard Chartered Marathon 2008 - INCOMPLETE!
Yeah...for the 1st time Grace Tan gave up on her run. Before the run, I've had my qualms about being able to clear this year's marathon with my almost zilch training. But as usual, just wanted to test waters and see how far I could go. Alas...not very far.
I knew I won't go very far when my knees started aching at the 5km mark! That spelt bad news for me because from experience, it meant that it will be downhill for me. True enough, at the 13km point, this severe cramp set in and I was so frightened my blood vessels would burst. It was so tight and the pain was so sharp. Stretched for a while then proceeded to walk to cool down and see if I can continue....more cramps came every 10mins as I walk and I had to make the choice to discontinue.I knew I had little reserve left to continue the remaining 30+km and that marked the end of my marathon journey for 2008.
I'm not sad or disappointed. I expected it because I was ill-prepared to start with and had I choose to push on, I know it will do me more harm than good. Besides, I want to be able to enjoy my backpacking trip so marathon had to take a back seat :)
Nonetheless, I'm still going to try again next year. Will still go for my 4th Biathlon and my 1st attempt at the Sundown Marathon (Adidas). I WILL START TRAINING (when i return that is!). I will make a strong comeback. :)
Lesson learnt : NEVER 'KAY -KIANG' AND THINK YOU CAN CLEAR A 42KM RUN WITHOUT THOROUGH TRAINING! I tried and tested so don't be a bobo and follow my footsteps. But you can emulate my garang-ness :)
