Swooning over the Men

Yesterday was the last day of my TP2 and I went to catch the latest men (in town) in action! Perfect closure to the hectic period where I can sit and enjoy without worrying about the tons of things awaiting me to clear. In any case, after watching the 2 men, you will not be able to think about other things! Ha....at least it was the case for me. Now I am still in the post-Robertie & Donnie state.

Honestly, Ironman 2 was not all that fantastic. True to what my friends said. Nonetheless I wanted to watch it for myself to give the final verdict. I felt Ironman 1 had more punch and No.2 seemed to pale in comparison. However, the show was saved by the cast and somewhat witty lines interjected here and there throughout the 124mins. Plot was sadly weak, but it is usually the case for most action-packed movies like Transformers.

But Robert Downey Jr and Scarlett Johansson did make the movie more memorable! One cannot be too critical when there are hot dudes and babes to talk about. I cannot think of anyone who can play the role of Ironman other than Mr Downey himself. That X-factor is undeniable. Gwyneth Paltrow is 1 sure lucky lady, considering her not so power-pack acting chops as compared to Scarlett. OOoh....she's simply mama-mia!

The marathon ended with Ip-Man and in a nutshell, it is the case of having saved the best for the last. The actions aside, both my colleague and I left feeling proud about the Chinese heritage. Did I mention that my colleague was a Muslim?? For that, I give the movie 100 marks!

I was wide awake throughout the show because there was simply no room to shut my eyes for even a second! I am not just referring to the ferociously continuous punches from Ip-Man but the flow of the movie. It just kept me anticipating and anticipating. I like how the film did not over-emphasize on the martial art moves but did enough to portray the spirit of Wing Chun and how it was lived out by the Master himself. It was more substance than fluff to say the least.

And who can forget the swoonsome Donnie Yen. Move away Jet Li & Jackie Chan! He's the real stuff! Ok the two Js are also not imitations but Mr Donnie just wins them hands down any time! Joani said its the short-fringe look but I say he just has the whole package! But why eccentuate his lack of height by pairing him with a super tall female counterpart????? Man..that was just such a spoiler! Well well...you win some, you also lose some. :)

Perfect way to welcome the weekend and I am looking forward to my next movie - ROBIN HOOD! Oh actually I have a few in mind...Prince of Persia, Mao's last dancer and maybe Monga. I think I better go catch the last 2 before they end their run! Yeah....so many things to look forward to for my break!

Enjoy the moment while it lasts, Gracie!

Wo(Man) of the hour

As I read the tribute to the late Dr Goh Keng Swee, I can't help but feel this profoundly deep admiration for this immensely brilliant forefather of Singapore. I was in awe of his contributions and how his influence is so pervasive in modern Singapore, yet so few actually heard and know of his legacy. The more I read on about what people remembered of him and his long list of accolades, the more proud I am to be a Singaporean. I never knew places of interests like our zoo, bird park and even Sentosa were his ideas! These are just a tiny fraction of his contributions. My gosh....it was just an incredible discovery and I was hooked to the Saturday's Special edition on 'Remember Dr Goh Keng Swee'. Strangely, my heart was pounding as I read and later reflected on this titan's life. Instinctively, a question came to mind i.e. will there be another titan like Dr Goh, Mr Lee KY, Mr Wee Kim Wee or the other members of the Old Guard in my generation? Will I get to see one em...

SHAKING OFF THE DUST

Its been a long hiatus :) So many things have taken place and so many reflections to document but the inertia to do it was just to great to resist. Anyhow, decided to take some time during this break to start the 'blogging engine' going again. Hopefully, it revives my hope and wish to keep this site alive.  Just had the annual ODAC camp @ Ubin and while trekking around the island with the kiddies yesterday, I chanced upon this little grasshopper at the Sensory Trail. I managed to get up close and personal for this shot, which was taken with my new iPhone 7 ahem. Image was sharp and it looked great!  And the verse that came to mind was: "Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?....Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." - Matthew 6: 26-34 In my rest...

Universal Studio

Thanks to YOG I got to enter Universal Studios @ Resorts World Sentosa ytd for free! Yes...rides were free and I had a $10 food & beverage voucher. Ok....sometimes I'm grateful that I'm a teacher because we are really one of the few professions who will enjoy such privileges :) Introducing the bevy of gorgeous ladies of Pei Hwa Sec : Miss Grace Tan, Miss Sophia Tan, Miss Shirley Tan and Miss Roslinda ! Don't you love the donkey ears???!!! WE WERE SERIOUSLY AMUSING OURSELVES IN THE SOUVENIR SHOP! Alright...this is the first but not my last time visiting U.S.S because I'll be going there again in Nov for my dept's learning journey. Don't ask me how we are going to think up PE lessons from visiting the theme park but miracles do happen! So after loosening the leash around the 51 kids whom we accompanied yesterday evening, the 6 female teachers (where are all the men??? tsk tsk...) went about to have a wild time of feasting on 20" pizzas, running after cart...
