Osim Triathlon 2010

My first attempt but surely won't be my last.

I swam (1.5km), I cycled (40km) and I ran (10km). I conquered a total distance of 51.5km. A remarkable feat for a noob at an international race.

Check out the muscles forming at the calves!!!!

During my last leg of the race i.e. the run segment, my left thigh cramped and I thought it was the end for me. God must have knew my deep deep desire to complete the race and suddenly my colleague appeared on his blades and he paced me till the end. Ok...I could not run as fast as his blades carried him but I did not stopped to walk and the amazing part was...THE CRAMP CEASED. What a race!

Let me boast a bit more with my results:

Pos. Name Swim Rank(S) Bike Rank(B) Run Rank(R) Total Rank
10 TAN YAN YAN GRACE 00:37:28 5 01:39:31 12 01:12:59 9
03:29:56 10

The feeling is just shiok shiok shiok! Till today, I still cannot forget the jitters before the race, the paranoial about dying, injuries and failing to complete but the sweetest moment of it all is when I crossed the finishing line with gusto!

I overcame the odds to call myself a triathlete and in this race of life, I believe I'm more than just a marathoner, biathlete and triathlete all in 1. I have proven that my mental is strong enough to get myself to the finishing line and I pray I will have the strength daily to surmount any challenges and at the end of it all, I will be MORE THAN A CONQUEROR!

Still basking in the delight and pride of my accomplishment :)

Osim Triathlon 2011....here I come!

Wo(Man) of the hour

As I read the tribute to the late Dr Goh Keng Swee, I can't help but feel this profoundly deep admiration for this immensely brilliant forefather of Singapore. I was in awe of his contributions and how his influence is so pervasive in modern Singapore, yet so few actually heard and know of his legacy. The more I read on about what people remembered of him and his long list of accolades, the more proud I am to be a Singaporean. I never knew places of interests like our zoo, bird park and even Sentosa were his ideas! These are just a tiny fraction of his contributions. My gosh....it was just an incredible discovery and I was hooked to the Saturday's Special edition on 'Remember Dr Goh Keng Swee'. Strangely, my heart was pounding as I read and later reflected on this titan's life. Instinctively, a question came to mind i.e. will there be another titan like Dr Goh, Mr Lee KY, Mr Wee Kim Wee or the other members of the Old Guard in my generation? Will I get to see one em...

Day 3 & 4 - Halong Bay

HALONG BAY Cat Ba Island (2 days, 1 night) After 1 day of exploration of Hanoi city, we headed for Halong Bay via the junkboat. Our destination was on Cat Ba Island where we stayed for the night. It was also there that we ventured onto 'Monkey' Island - not to be deceived; there was only 4 monkeys sighted. The exhilirating part of this journey was the motorbike ride to the ferry terminal to board the boat to 'Monkey' Island. Felt like I was part of a short scene of a James Bond movie (pillion with Pierce Brosnan!). Will never forget the cold draft blowing against my face and just riding up and down the slopes! Cat Ba Island is a very quiet & tranquail place. Little activity especially at night. Wanted to catch the morning activities at the fishing wharf opposite our hotel but could not wake up in time. Nonetheless, managed to capture some snippets of what goes on at the bay. Waiting patiently to board the boat. Snapped this on board the boat. Not a vietnamese but fe...
