It was a nice get-together with my Pei Hwa colleagues once again and it was great to be able to spend time with Lo Lo, one of my first few friends at PH, after such a long time!
Then it was evening with Grandpop George and Aunt Joan. Headed to watch a Latin musical comedy (Ole!), which really made me forget how tired I was. The 1.5 hr of performance was unbelievable. Full of humor and the trio displayed such finesse with their guitars. We were treated to various genres of music - Latin, blues, jazz, salsa and their voices were magical. In addition, there was juggling and other side-splitting slapstick humorous acts. My grandpop made a good call!
As always, with my family or friends, food is a big thing! We never fail to splurge on good food. Before the show, we ate at Simply Peranakan at the Esplanade. This is how we decided to eat there.
At.Joan: Ok you and yeye decided where to eat. Got japanese, peranankan, glutton's bay or korean.
Me: Anything lah.
Grandpop: No, you choose. Today is your day.
Split up to check out the restaurants. Aunt went to Humble House, grandpop & me looked at Simply Peranakan's menu.
At this time, grandpa was raving about the assam fish head curry, ayam buah keluak and was speaking as though he had in mind what to order already.
So the answer was very clear. He wanted to eat Peranakan food but would say I love to eat the fish head curry etc. Like my grandma. And since he said its my day, I wisely chose Simply Peranakan.
This is my grandpa for you.
Wearing the shirt I bought for him with a newly tailored pants. Like a youth, he fished out his handphone and wanted to take a picture with me, as we were decked in similar color clothes. Later I took this shot of him and he was so happy he looked good!
Another of my favourite person on earth!
The highlights of our dinner.
First time trying buah keluak and I'm happy with it!
My grandpa can't take too spicy stuff as it might trigger his cough and gastric jucie reflux thingy but it has always been his love. He was wanting to try abit of the sambal belachan but it was too spicy. Anyway he still got to dabble in the assam curry.
When it came to dessert, once again he did his usual act.
Grandpop: Ok now i'm ready for dessert.
Me: AH! I'm so full!
Grandpop: The sago in gula melaka is good. Chendol also nice but I know you all won't like. We share the sago.
Me: But I'm really full.
At. Joan whispered saying :" Let him order. It means he wants it."
Grandpop asked the waiter.
Waiter: Oh...sago in gula melaka sold out. Only left pulut hitam and chendol.
Haha...I was secretly overjoyed! My prayer was answered.
Grandpop was pacified when we said we will return to try it.
He was happy with dinner and we happily headed for the show, which left us happy!

Couple of years back I wanted to run a marathon, at least once in my life, but kept telling myself excuses to "Run another time".
Now, what I wouldnt give to run a marathon man..if it doesnt break my right leg or cause some irreversible damage. I might never do it again, but who knows? with enough training! ha...now it's back to basics.
Right! let's all work hard! : )
