Death is releasing and dignified. Such is the portrayal of a morbid topic in Departures. Provided a different dimension to life.
Regardless of age, social backgrounds and gender, all are deserving of a dignified departure from earth. Departures showed how it is possible for loved ones to remember nothing but the beautiful memories of the one whom has departed. They may have had differences or maybe estranged from one another, but when they are gathered to send the person off on his/her last journey, what confronts them are the good memories. In this sense, death is not just releasing to the dead but the living as well.
Ingenious plot that manages to weave both the themes of humor and grief beautifully together.
